FEDORA WOMEN’S DAY

I am not a regular blogger nor do i have written any blogs in the past. This is my first blog, I would say a first initiative towards contributing to opensource.I have been always planning to contribute to open source but could not happen due to personal commitments. As there is a saying “Never late then before”, I thought this is the right time to kick-start it.Thanks Amita sharma for inspiring me and driving me in.

After long days of planning, meetings, discussions during the lunch hours we were finally able to organize the First chapter of Fedora Women’s day on 15th July, 2016 at RED HAT, Pune.Fedora Women is a project designed to connect and assist women who are interested in using and contributing to Fedora. Fedora women day is an effort to encourage and help raise awareness for more women contributors across the Fedora Project.

It was 3 pm and  we were ready with all the setup to host this event. The event started with the key note by Amita, and then it was followed by the women’s fedora diversity  leader Maria “tatica” Leandro who was live with us from Venezuela. she woke up at around her 5 am to talk to us. Thanks tatica, for early morning rush and we highly appreciate her efforts. she spoke to us for an hour and about her journey in fedora. Her first contribution towards translating in spanish! i got a chance to speak to her. when i told her  that we were meeting every friday during the lunch hour for discussions and we had formed  women’s fedora marketing group, she was amazed by the idea  and is looking forward for more actions plans from us! it was great talking to her.

Finally ,the most awaited moment. The event went live with the fedora project leader Matthew Miller. i had heard a lot about him and  finally got a chance to see him live.it was great listening to him.He mentioned about different initiatives taken in Fedora for increasing the participation around the globe.
